Growing up is rarely a straight path. It’s full of tension between who you are and what you’re expected to be, between safety and risk, between holding on and letting go. My work explores that in between space: the uncertain transition from youth to adulthood.
I’m drawn to the way we carry both vulnerability and power. How identity is formed whilst navigating pressure, confusion, and the need to belong. How youthful energy creates new mythology connected to ancient archetypes. These themes are rooted in my own experiences, and in those of the people around me.
The pieces I create are inspired by the quiet strength I see in young people and their inner world. The pieces sit at the intersection of street culture, identity, mythology, memory, and transformation. I draw upon influences as diverse as graffiti art, classical sculpture, and electronic dance music.
These currents flow into small, three dimensional, hand sculpted memories of youth and the urban experience.
Diverse pathways
I’ve been making art since childhood, inspired by nature, comic books, influenced by hip hop and electronic dance music, and the formation of identity as we become adults.
Studying Fine Art at Cheltenham College of Art introduced me to a wide spectrum of figurative, abstract, and conceptual approaches. After graduating, I moved into commercial children’s illustration and graphic design for both digital and print, while continuing to build a parallel portfolio of painting and drawing.
Evolving narratives
In the past ten years my practice has evolved, weaving together the threads of my creative career into sculptural work.
I’m drawn to myths, symbols, and ancient archetypes, and their relationship to contemporary culture, and how this is felt in the journeys of young people amidst a noisy, challenging world.
Having worked with some young people, making objects as a way of reflecting on understanding their own identity, I am now expanding my practice into youth voice projects, working with small groups in south Manchester to widen the impact that creating an object can have on emerging identity.
Current studio practice
I have previously sculpted in clay and cast in resin to make repeatable figurative forms. This allowed me to experiment with a variety of finishes and narratives in the same silhouette.
In 2025, I have expanded my sculpture practice to include stone carving. I’m currently focused on working in alabaster and aim to sculpt in marble in the future. I’m enjoying the combination of ancient material and traditional techniques, it offers a way to give a new impact and weight to the subject matter I’m working with.
